Knowledge for Managing Information Systems Security: Review and Future Research Directions

Resource management systems enable organizations to track, control, and utilize their assets. Managers rely on such systems to obtain useful information about organizational resources and make the right business decisions. However, in order to fully utilize resource management systems for improving operational efficiency and building competitive advantage in the market place, organizations must ensure that the systems are secure. Indeed, security may be seen as the necessary condition for the successful implementation of not only resource management systems but also other types of information systems (IS) in general. The implication of security (or lack of it) on organizations’ business operations is profound. Without sufficient security, organizations may risk losing critical information, being distracted from normal business activities, or incurring unforeseeable financial costs.
